Beaches near Bordeira
Just beyond the village, the coastline opens up. Raw, open, and endlessly walkable. There are at least 30 stunning beaches within half an hour of Bordeira. These are the nearest:
Praia da Bordeira: the big, picture perfect famous one with wide dunes and a river you can wade through barefoot after a rainy period in winter. Never too crowded, even in summer.
Praia do Amado: with surf schools, beach bars, and dramatic cliffs that make a great spot to look at the sunset.
Praia de Arrifana: highly beloved by surfers, this sheltered cove offers dramatic waves and views.
Castelejo: quieter surf beach, about 25‑minute drive, scenic and windswept
Vale Figueiras: or praia das Figueiras is a local favorite, more rugged and remote, perfect for quiet walks
Where to eat in and around Bordeira
The restaurants in this area generally match the environment. They used to be quite rugged without many frills, but in the last couple of years there is a change in offerings. But, luckily, it is still the flavour that counts. Authentic Portuguese dishes are easily found, the more modern veggie and vegan options are popping up like mushrooms and the diversity in cuisines is also expanding.
